Kate Howe: The Templum @ Orleans House Gallery
Step inside a cave made from packing paper and get lost in a world of nooks, spirals and a ramp that leads us up into the space. It’s a stunning installation to explore and get away from the world in – engage in some meditation, read a book and while away hours inside. Until 22nd September.
Sosa Joseph: Pennungal: Lives of women and girls @ David Zwirner
These fantastic ghostly figurative paintings of women and girls, including her family members, are based on the artist’s memories of growing up in Kerala in South India. Whether they show a woman bitten by a snake, the recovery of the body of a pregnant woman found drowned, or moments of tenderness they all have a dream-like quality to them that makes you want to know the story behind each one.

Liorah Tchiprout: I love the flames, but not the embers @ Pippy Houldsworth Gallery
The artist creates puppets and poses them before painting them and it’s fantastic how much emotion she imbues them, particularly the paintings with multiple characters. She’s a phenomenal portrait painter whose work I’ve been following for several years and this is another excellent collection of figurative paintings. Until 28th September.
Makiko Harris: Lacquered Rebellion @ Kristin Hjellgjerde, London Bridge
How are women supposed to look and dress? Makiko Harris takes this question and subverts it. Long red fingernails become oversized like weapons or arm or leg guards. What looks like bulging flesh under fishnet stockings, when you get closer is made of metal and prevents you from getting closer. Heavy chains over a doorway and needles like spears over a meter long add to her armoury.

Alejandro Piñeiro Bello: Entre El Día Y La Noche @ Pace London
In his first solo exhibition in the UK, the artist channels his Cuban heritage into his large-scale surreal paintings where you can get lost in their swirls. Inspired by the glaring light of the Cuban sun and the area’s rich history of magical realism he’s created some spectacular paintings. Until 28th September.
