Peter Doig selects shortlisted artists for £50,000 Art Award.

Leading artist Peter Doig has selected the shortlist for this year’s David and Yuko Juda Art Foundation Grant which awards £50,000 to a living artist to alleviate their financial pressures and give them freedom to concentrate on their practice.

The shortlisted artists are:

Jai Chuhan
David Harrison
Tam Joseph
Gavin Lockheart
Kaoli Mashio
Alan Vaughan

An exhibition of all shortlisted artists will be held at Annely Juda Fine Art, 23 Dering Street, London from 10th – 20th September 2024 with the recipient of the £50,000 award being announced on Tuesday 10th September at 7pm during a special reception at the gallery.

A panel will meet on the day of the award to decide who will receive the grant. This year the panel is made up of the Foundation’s trustees, David and Yuko JudaNina FellmannRupert Faulkner and Paul Calkin, joined by Andrea Rose (Former Director of Visual Arts, British Council), Reinhard Spieler (Director of the Sprengel Museum, Hannover) Jonathan Watkins (former Director of IKON, Birmingham) and Andrew Wilson (art historian, critic and former curator at Tate Britain).

The David and Yuko Juda Art Foundation charity was set up in 2017 and this will be the sixth year the grant has been awarded.

2023 Eloise Hawser; along with a special second grant of £10,000 awarded to Lea Andrews – curated and selected by Alison Wilding 2022 Brian Dawn Chalkley – curated and selected by Ingrid Swenson and Andrew Wilson 2021 Amikam Toren; along with a special second grant of £10,000 awarded to Rie Nakajima – selected and curated by Jonathan Watkins 2019 Zineb Sedira- selected and curated by Anthony Reynolds 2018 Kathy Prendergast; along with a special second grant of £10,000 awarded to Imogen Stidworthy – selected and curated by Richard Grayson
