This September, VARIOUS OTHERS 2024 bwill kick off the autumn art season in Munich with more than 50 participating institutions, numerous guest curators, and over 200 artists.
The seventh edition of VARIOUS OTHERS promises to add to the international flair of Munich’s art scene. Starting on September 5, 2024, Munich anticipates its most extensive and diverse VO program yet: over 30 openings and numerous events such as receptions, performances, parties, and concerts.
VARIOUS OTHERS is the unique and international format of the Munich art scene. Since its inception in 2017, it has become a cornerstone of the Munich’s art scene, showcasing the city’s artistic diversity and fostering international exchange. This initiative thrives on collaboration, bringing together 17 galleries, 16 institutions, and 5 Artist Run Spaces from Munich, alongside international guest galleries, curators, and artists.
This year, visitors can look forward to numerous highlights in the participating galleries, particularly the gallery collaborations at Nir Altman, max goelitz, Jahn and Jahn, LOHAUS SOMINSKY, Britta Rettberg, Rüdiger Schöttle, nouveaux deuxdeux, Sperling, or Walter Storms. Curated exhibitions, including at Paulina Caspari and Galerie Klüser, as well as exciting solo presentations at Knust Kunz Gallery Editions, Françoise Heitsch, JO VAN DE LOO, GALERIE CHRISTINE MAYER, Galerie Nagel Draxler, or Deborah Schamoni round off the exciting program. Additionally, the participating Artist-Run Spaces shine with surprising projects, especially GiG Munich, NEBYULA – Rosa Stern Space e.V., as well as the new VO participants space n.n. and Milchstrasse 4.
There are several new exciting presentations to be seen at the public institutions, especially the exhibitions at the Kunstverein München and the VS (Museum Villa Stuck). Other openings will be celebrated at beacon, Lothringer 13 Halle, Kunstraum München, Metropol Kunstraum, and Salta art at Sorry Square. The Eres Stiftung is presenting the “Debutants” of the Academy of Fine Arts and also showcasing a new “Eres Projects” project. The Sammlung Goetz is represented at several locations in Munich, including the Media Art Award at the Academy Gallery. Other institutions, such as Kunsthalle
München, Haus der Kunst, LENBACHHAUS MÜNCHEN, Pinakothek der Moderne, and Espace Louis Vuitton München, NS-Dokumentationszentrum München, will feature additional events to complement their ongoing exhibitions. The Museum Brandhorst will award the third “Flag Commission” to Lilly van der Stokker on the occasion of VARIOUS OTHERS.
This dense program of participants will be completed by a VARIOUS OTHERS Special: “Carrying the Earth to the Sky” presents works by 13 artists currently active in Munich’s contemporary art scene. After a two-stage selection process with an international jury, curator Magdalena Wisniowska meticulously selected the works for the exhibition together with the artists and brings them together in an overarching curatorial concept in a temporary location.
Since its founding seven years ago, this broad anchoring in the city, combined hospitality and a strong international orientation, has made VARIOUS OTHERS an incomparable art experience. For ten days, Munich welcomes art enthusiasts from all over the world and invites them to experience the ever-growing network: in addition to the 38 participants from Munich, this year there are 18 institutional guests and numerous curators. Together, the participants present more than 200 artists and offer a varied Public & Special Program during VO that makes Munich’s art scene in all its diversity tangible.

VARIOUS OTHERS is a format of VFAMK e.V. that promotes cooperation and international exchange: between private galleries and public institutions, between the local art scene and international actors, and of course between the Munich public and guests from all over the world. VARIOUS OTHERS not only enjoys steadily growing interest from Munich participants but also long-standing support from individuals and partners, which is what helps to make the format so unique
