In Medias Res, an exhibition of NFT artworks by feminist and post-cyberfeminist artists who reimagine celluloid-based media for the Age of Artificial Intelligence.

Feral File to present FEMMEBIT’s In Medias Res, an exhibition of NFT artworks by feminist and post-cyberfeminist artists who reimagine celluloid-based media for the decentralized realm of “Life 3.0” or the” Age of Artificial Intelligence”. In Medias Res includes new works by Tuna Bora, Petra Cortright, Huntress Janos, Casey Kauffmann/ UncannySFValley, Wednesday Kim, Eve-Lauryn LaFountain, Anna Luisa Petrisko, Ellie Pritts, and JJ Stratford.

Drawing from these Los Angeles-adjacent artists, the sun-drenched, palm-dappled Hollywood aesthetic is reimagined as a diffuse and dis-related chaparral, barren cityscape via video gifs and XR (Extended Reality). In Medias Res–meaning to start the story from the middle–reflects today’s digital uprootedness from time-based narratives of the silver screen to invoke liminal spaces of belonging. These artworks challenge conventional definitions of cities in relation to mainstream media, geography, and land ownership to explore new perspectives on urban environments existing in the imagination as much as in real life.

This exhibition is curated by digital artists Kate Parsons and Janna Avner and assisted by creative writer and filmmaker Samantha Proctor. Exhibition August 17th runtime starts at 14:00 UTC+0 (7:00 AM PST) and activities on Feral File’s platform begin around noon PST. On August 15th, in-person events will occur at NFTuesday LA at El Cid (4212 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90029) at 7 PM PST, followed by an artist talk with some exhibiting artists at 8:30 PM PST.

FEMMEBIT is a grassroots platform and triennial festival of Los Angeles-based artists working in video and new media. As a celebration that includes curated programs, symposiums, screenings, and exhibitions, FEMMEBIT examines today’s society at large as an ever-changing medium in how artists working with and between technologies enable progressive ideas to be born through active creation, and how we, as proponents of these fields, must work together to shape, share and grow a future receptive to progress. femmebit.art
