Are home decor trends moving faster and faster? Read on as we discuss trends and how to avoid spending too much money on them.
There is no doubt that home decor trends move increasingly quickly as time goes on. We live in a fast-paced world, and with that comes a much bigger need for instant gratification than before. It could be that a trend was never set to work from the outset, so it is no longer in fashion, or it could be that the consumer demand is different than what it was before. Either way, there is no doubt that these trends are moving fast!
What Does a Trend Mean?
A trend is something that is usually only popular for a certain period of time. It can also mean a general sense of direction. For example, something is on an upward trend, and this could take place over a longer period of time. Social media has also adapted how we think of trends. It usually means a sudden surge of interest.
Can Trends be Measured?
It used to be much more difficult to measure trends, but thanks to the likes of social media and analytical tools becoming more sophisticated, it’s easier than before. Google trends, for example, can give you valuable data on what the popularity of a specific search term has been over a period of time. This means you can look at peaks and troughs of specific decor trends/products. Of course, what people post on their own Instagram pages can give you a good view too.
Architecture Can be Less Trendy
In terms of home decor and interior design, it could be those small furniture items and general decor goes out of fashion much faster than the architectural design of a home. Cheap furniture stores can usually keep up with these to make sure they are pushing out popular products, which will mean you don’t need to spend as much to keep up. With architecture, these ideas tend to evolve over a much longer period of time. Things need to be much more considered and pass multiple checkpoints before they get anywhere.
When are Trends at their Most Popular?
Trends are usually at their most popular around January time. This is when people are ready to make their New Year’s resolutions and have a bit of a fresh start. Although some of these may be personal resolutions, more often than not, those coincide with changes around the home as a step towards something better.
What to Think about Before Jumping on a Trend
Before you start spending a lot of money on the next home decor trend, think about what you really like about it in the first place. Could there maybe be a stylistic change that you could make that would cost less money? Could you move items to another room to create space for changes and not waste any furniture? Ask yourself these questions before spending money on something that might not last long.
Trends are a funny thing, and they are getting shorter life cycles as the world progresses. As such, you need to put a lot of thought into whether or not you want to jump on the bandwagon – and invest money.
