What Is the Best Way to Smoke Cannabis?

Marijuana has been around for centuries, and it has become increasingly popular in recent years for many reasons. Some people consume it for medical reasons, while others enjoy the mind-altering effects of THC. Marijuana is also now legal in some states which has made it a lot more accessible for those who want to try it out. If you are someone who wants to try consuming marijuana but are unsure about how to consume it, or which method is the best and easiest to use, this article will go into more detail about some of the most popular marijuana consumption methods available and the best ways to consume it.

What is surprising about this image is that it was taken by the federal government. This beautiful photo was captured by Marc St. Gil, (1924-1992) for the newly formed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Bongs and Joints

Bongs and joints are two of the most common and traditional cannabis consumption methods. Bongs are water filtration devices used to smoke cannabis, and to use this device you have to fill the bowl with a small amount of crushed dry cannabis, fill the bong with some water, and light the herb with a flame while inhaling through the mouthpiece simultaneously. Once you do this, the water will start bubbling while the bong fills with smoke. When your bowl is empty, inhale all the smoke in the bong. There is a whole range of different bongs out there, and depending on your taste you can get a glass bong, a silicone bong or even a designer bong like the hand-engraved LV bong from Molino Glass. The latter one is surely going to impress your friends with its looks, while providing you with a wonderful smoking experience. Joints, on the other hand, are similar to a cigarette in appearance and is simply cannabis hand rolled in rolling paper. To smoke, put the joint in your mouth and light the opposite end with a flame. Once lit, start inhaling until an even burn is established. These methods are great for social settings, and both provide a quick onset. Beginners will find that they are both easy to use.

Edibles

Edibles are food and drink products that contain cannabis. They come in a wide variety of forms including brownies, cookies, popcorn, tea, and even alcoholic beverages. When you eat or drink an edible it gets processed via your digestive system and liver which takes between 60 minutes – 2 hours. Once the effects eventually kick in, you can enjoy them for upward of 12 hours. This method of consumption is great because it is safe, healthy, and the effects are 10 x more potent and intense compared to other consumption methods. Also, they are by far the most beginner-friendly because everyone knows how to eat and drink.  However, it is important to note that not all edibles are created equal. Some edibles may contain THCA, which is the acidic form of THC that is not psychoactive until it is heated or decarboxylated. It’s essential to check the label or ask the vendor if the edible has undergone decarboxylation before consuming it to ensure that you get the desired effects. Dry Herb Vaporizers

A dry herb vaporizer is a battery-powered device that vaporizes cannabis through heating methods. This device is hand-held and to consume, fill the chamber with dry herbs that are crushed, turn the device on, select a temperature, inhale, and exhale. The heating technology creates vapor instead of smoke which is healthier and more potent. This device is also convenient, discreet, portable, and easy to use for beginners.

Tinctures

Tinctures are a liquid created by dissolving dried cannabis flowers in alcohol for some time. This liquid gets consumed sublingually by placing a few drops underneath the tongue and waiting for about 2 minutes before swallowing the liquid. This allows the cannabis to be absorbed into your bloodstream via the nerves underneath your tongue. This is a safe and healthy way to consume cannabis and is actually a go-to method of administering medical marijuana. Discreet, convenient, and portable, this consumption method is perfect for beginners.

Transdermal Patches

Transdermal patches are patches that contain cannabis. You simply apply the patch onto the surface of your skin, targeting an area where there are veins exposed. Once the patch is on, it will slowly release cannabis into your bloodstream throughout the day lasting upward of 96 hours. This method of consumption is amazing because you can apply the patch and then completely forget about it while going about your day. This cannot be any easier to use, and beginners will love it because it is hassle free, portable, and discreet.

When exploring consumption methods, consider your lifestyle first. For example, if you are someone who works a lot and is constantly busy, avoid edibles because they are intense and long lasting. No matter what your needs are, there is a guaranteed method of consumption to suit your needs. Of this list, the worst option is probably bongs and joints due to the fact that they create combustion, which has serious health risks such as lung cancer and upper airway cancer. If you want inhalation, dry herb vaporizers are a healthier option.
