Chicago agreed to consult on the visuals for his benefit concert at Los Angeles Coliseum to Larry Hoover, the leader of Chicago’s Gangster disciples. Hoover has been locked up in Colorado’s federal Supermax jail and is serving several life sentences and has endured long periods of solitary confinement.
“My work has long been a way for me to raise awareness of inequality, educate viewers and enable them to make changes, I hope my contributions brought some joy to those who attended the concert, as well as to continue the necessary dialogue to address a reform of criminal justice in this country and around the world.”
Artists Judy Chicago and Swoon have teamed up with Jane Fonda and her environmental initiative Fire Drill Fridays, a partnership with Greenpeace USA; the Women, Arts and Social Change initiative of National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, D.C.; and Serpentine Galleries, London.
