Christie’s announces WAVEFORM, an NFT by musical artist 3LAU, will highlight Christie’s X OpenSea, a collaborative sale launching December 1st. The sale, curated by Christie’s and hosted on OpenSea.io, will be open for browsing December 1- 3 and open for bidding December 4th – 7th, with an exclusive preview taking place in Miami at “The Gateway,” a nft now x Christie’s sensory experience.
Inspired by the Wu-Tang Clan’s famous “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” album, WAVEFORM is a 1/1 song initially produced by 3LAU. The lot is powered by Royal — a platform founded by 3LAU where fans can buy ownership in songs directly from their favourite artists and earn royalties along with them.
Noah Davis, Christie’s Specialist and Head of Digital Sales remarked,
“NFTs have become embedded in every area of pop culture. 3LAU has developed a mind blowing use for NFTs in music. Christie’s is thrilled to present a groundbreaking sonic work of art like WAVEFORM. I hope this sale will encourage musicians and songwriters of all stripes to consider the myriad ways NFTs can enrich and empower their practice.”
One hundred percent of the rights to WAVEFORM will be transferred to the successful buyer of the lot; they will be granted full master recording & publishing rights, and thus entitled to edit, remix, rename & release WAVEFORM in its current state or as later modified by the buyer. In addition to the NFT, there will be a physical component of the work, a 3D sculpture of the song’s actual waveform, that will be gifted to the buyer. Never before exhibited, the sculpture will be on view at “The Gateway” on December 3rd during Art Basel Miami Beach.
