ARKET + Pia Wallén introduce ‘The Shapes of Pia Wallén’

ARKET has launched a capsule collection designed in collaboration with  Pia Wallén. Entitled ‘The Shapes of Pia Wallén’, the collection features women’s clothing, accessories and interior furnishings.

Internationally renowned for her striking combination of modern minimalism and traditional craftsmanship, Pia Wallén is one of Sweden’s most celebrated designers, recognised by her cross-patterned blanket, a wool wrap that immediately became her artistic trademark.

‘Pia Wallén has a fantastic eye for creating statements out of every single object she designs.  Each piece is powerful and interesting’, says Anna Teurnell, ARKET Head of Design. ‘It’s not that common in Scandinavian design, yet to me, her work has something very Nordic to it.’

Known primarily for her interior design, Pia Wallén is originally a fashion designer, beginning her career as a student at the fashion program at Beckmans College of Design. Her graduation show gained a lot of attention with hand-knitted garments inspired by Nordic Folklore.

Traditional craft remain at the core of her design, but it is in contrast with her distinct eye for visually striking shapes that timeless designs are born, a purified form of aesthetics that leaves room for collective history as well as personal expression.

‘My work is a twofold process of interior and fashion, and I have always been curious about the interaction. The ARKET collaboration allowed me to combine my entire  experience and skill, and together with the production team we have captured this spirit in a new, delicate collection.’

says Pia Wallén.

The Shapes of Pia Wallén’ marks the second chapter in ARKET’s series Nordic Stories – exclusive collaborations with independent creators and cultural institutions from the Nordic region. This collection features women’s coats and skirts, bags, felt slippers for men and women, exclusive wool blankets and interior products.
