How to Prevent Cruelty to Animals?

Animal abuse is one of the major concerns. People who love them do not really get the psychology behind this abuse. However, it happens every day. At times, abuse is not as obvious as you might take it to be. It might take place far from the prying eyes of the public. You might not come to know if your neighbor was practicing animal cruelty unless he/she brought his/her pet the activity outside where you could see. This is the reason you first need to know what animal cruelty is.

Abuse is a treatment of a creature that can lead to psychological or physical damage. They are sentient beings. Thus, experience pain, fear, and other negative emotions just as the pets enjoy love, joy, and contentment.

Here are two basic types of cruelty.

  • Personal: Abuse occurs between the creature and the person.
  • Commercial: Abuse is committed to improving the profit of the organization.

Large-scale abuse might appear to be an important problem to tackle but there is nothing like minor abuse. Anyone ill-treating their pets or other creatures should be brought to justice. This is the reason most governments across the world have created laws against this. Often these can happen in the shelters. Whenever you notice abuse, report it.

Most of the cases go unreported or unreported to law enforcement agencies. In case you are frustrated with this, you can try out these methods to stop or prevent cruelty to animals.

Learn to Recognize Animal Abuse

When you face an issue as harrowing as this, it is easy to let all your emotions and feelings get the better of you. You might also be thinking about how to stop it when it becomes prevalent. It appears, to end these painful activities you need to learn to recognize them.

As per the humane society, animal cruelty includes a wide range of behaviors that are detrimental to them from something like neglect to killing.

Negligence can be difficult to spot. At times, it might be difficult to recognize the signs of abuse. It is one of the most common forms of cruelty. Many researchers have started studying the living conditions of pets and these can be read in the cruelty to animals essay. These essays about animal abuse go to length to discuss the different forms of negligence. The signs include a dog being left outside during extreme temperature, poor living conditions, etc.

Hoarding can also lead to an unsafe environment for these creatures. In case someone is hoarding creatures, they will fail to care for them properly.

Reporting Animal Cruelty

Witnessing cruelty being meted out to someone can be distressing. However, you can also act immediately to stop cruelty to animals. In case your city or town has a control agency to look after these issues, you should get in touch with them as soon as possible. But if there are no such organizations, just call 911, when you feel that the creature is in immediate danger.

If you can, intervene on behalf of the innocent creature. In case that isn’t possible, click some videos or photos of the incident and document the date, time, and location of the incident. It makes it easier to inform the authorities.

Fight Animal Cruelty

Sure, it is important to report abuse but the battle against it doesn’t end there. There is more that you have to do.

Teach Your Kids About It

You have to teach kids to be responsible as pet owners when they are young.

Speak Against It

A majority of us use social media these days to speak up against such wrong-doings. Follow local protection agencies and shelters on social media and also share their posts.

Consider Adopting Animals in Need

In case someone cannot offer proper care to their pets, you can take them in. But do this only if you have the resources. By doing this, you will be able to save a life by offering a permanent or temporary home to a creature in need.

Make Personal Changes

More than 500,000 animals are used every year for cosmetic testing. More than 55 billion sea and land creatures are dying every year due to our food supply. One thing you can do is switch to cruelty-free products and stop the consumption of products that can negatively affect them.

Animals that Suffer the Most

A few creatures face more cruelty than the others. The ones that offer monetary value to humans suffer the most. However, people might behave cruelly for various reasons. A person who is unhappy might be dissatisfied with the cat just because it is unable to fight back. There is no monetary gain but only a case of dissatisfaction. This is horrifying but it happens.

The most common victims of abuse are cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and pets that people adopt. Almost all of us love our pets and would not hurt them. However, there are some people who take their pets as punching bags. Sure they might regret the act later but that doesn’t negate the actual act. Pets bred to offer eggs, milk, and meat, also suffer lifelong in the hands of humans.

Bottom Line

As more people become aware of animal abuse, there will be more power to stop it. There are various things that can be done to protect them and you do not have to have a pet to be a part of the noble cause.
