Remedial Works is a two-person exhibition by artists Kara Chin and Harley Kuyck-Cohen at Quench Gallery, Margate. An installation of new sculptural works and video, Chin and Kuyck-Cohen have produced works invested in representing shifting notions of nature.

In its most basic form, ‘Remedial’ means to heal. In terms of architecture – remediation is the process of revisiting and repairing those poorly constructed buildings treated unkindly by the natural world.

About the Artists
Kara Chin (b.1994, Singapore) lives and works in Newcastle, UK. She holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from The Slade School of Fine Art (2018). She is a British-Singaporean artist working across animation, ceramics, and installation. Her work inquires into the implications of fast evolving technologies, such as its ethical conundrums and potential consequences of developing robotics and artificial intelligence within the present and future. She has been awarded the Woon Foundation Painting and Sculpture Prize (2018); The Duveen Travel Scholarship, UCL (2018); The Alfred W Rich Prize, Slade (2017); Max Werner Drawing Prize, Slade (2015). Kara Chin is currently represented by Vitrine Gallery.
Harley Kuyck-Cohen (b.1994, UK) lives and works in Newcastle, UK. He graduated with a BA (Hons) from The Slade School of Fine Art (2018). Working in sculpture and installation – his practice addresses how our interior thoughts shape the exterior space. Colliding domestic spaces alongside polluted environments, questions of utopias and dystopias are formed to magnify current states of living, our emotive construction of space and public sites of assembly. Harley Kuyck-Cohen has been shortlisted for a number of awards, including The Mark Tanner Sculpture Award (2019), The Exeter Contemporary (2019) and The Woon Prize in Sculpture and Painting (2018). Harley Kuyck-Cohen is currently represented by Lungley Gallery.
