Design Miami/Podium 2020

Design Miami/ opens its sixteenth edition from November 27th through December 6th, offering a unique combination of both in-person exhibition in the Miami Design District, and new opportunities to access and experience the fair online. For visitors attending the fair at the Moore Building in Miami’s Design District, Design Miami/ has implemented health and safety protocols in consultation with the University of Miami Health System. But with attendance in Miami curtailed due to COVID-19 restrictions, Design Miami/ Podium 2020 is introducing new online platforms and channels, along with other digital tools that allow virtual visitors to easily interact online with all the fair has to offer—from any location around the world.

Despite the unprecedented challenges this year, rather than cancel the event altogether, the leadership of Design Miami/ has chosen to re-imagine the fair experience. For virtual visitors, Design Miami/ are adding multiple digital touch points that connect online viewers to gallery shows and partner exhibitions; curator-led talks and tours; VIP events; and our new e-commerce platform. In many ways, this represents the continuing evolution of Design Miami’s digital presence to better serve the needs of the global design community—now and in the future.

By utilizing cutting-edge technology, Design Miami/ makes it possible for online viewers to have more access to the fair than ever before. And the new platforms and channels make it possible to personalize their experience and participate in real time with Design Miami’s wide-ranging schedule of events and programming—as well as view the design objects in galleries and exhibitions.

With Design Miami’s expanded digital capabilities, online visitors can:

Take a virtual tour of the new selling-exhibition concept: Design Miami/Podium, conceived by curatorial director Aric Chen. Using 3D software, visitors can explore the exhibition in its real-world space in Miami. Everything at Podium is available for purchase. Visitors simply hover over the image to obtain details and price information, and then click through to Design Miami/ Shop to complete the transaction as easily as if they were at the fair in person.

Attend a live-streaming VIP walk-through of galleries hosted by a design expert from the Design Miami/ curatorial team, who will discuss the objects on display and answers questions about collectible design either in real time or from written queries.

Join a hosted talk featuring conversations with design world leaders, including connoisseurs, architects, artists, and historians. Online visitors can pick and choose the talks they want to view—at their own time and pace—by visiting the talks page on the Design Miami/ website.

Purchase design objects from the recently launched Design Miami/Shop, featuring a curated selection of one-of-a-kind, limited edition, and small-batch production design objects from both Design Miami’s gallery partners and the most reputable design galleries in the world.

Design Miami/ is the pre-eminent global forum for design collectors, patrons, and enthusiasts. They celebrate design culture, promote design commerce, and encourage conversations about design. By adopting new technologies, enhancing online capabilities, and implementing digital solutions, Design Miami seeks to broaden awareness about design to a truly global audience, and grow the marketplace as they position themselves for the future.
