The first Hurun Art Foundation exhibition in Europe,‘Circle Lines’ presents fifteen contemporary Chinese artists and will be on show at London’s China Exchange, the charitable forum for cultural exchange between Britain and China.
Works will be shown by fifteen artists including Wang Tiande, Qiu Jie and Shen Fan. Shen Fan is an abstract artist, whose minimal works incorporate a wide variety of materials, including paint and mirrored surfaces. Qui Jie is known for images that combine communist propaganda with kitsch imagery – such as the face of a cat supplanting Mao’s portrait. Wang Tiande works with the genre of Literati painting, using burning and unconventional mark making to depict Chinese characters.
The Hurun Art Foundation is dedicated to supporting a cross-section of artists at various stages in their careers, often with links to the academic community. ‘Circle Lines’ is supported by Peking Art Associates, an advisory firm working in Beijing, Hong Kong and London. Hurun is a publishing and events company that came to prominence through compiling the Hurun Report since 1999, the first list of the wealthiest individuals in China. www.hurun.net
