FAD caught up with Magda Archer ahead of Scream Editions opening up a POP UP just of Carnaby Street featuring some of her new paintings and prints more info HERE.
1 How does you work artistic work differ to your illustration work?
These days I rarely do any illustration work.I work with’ Polite’ but they use the images I am making for paintings & adjust those if they need to.I work with Blue Q in America because they understand the work and me & my capabilities plus they let me paint type which I love.Anything else would take too much time away from my paintings and printmaking.
2 What will you have on show at The Scream Editions POP UP?
At the pop up there will be a good selection of my paintings & all six of the screen prints we have completed at the Jealous Print studio.
3 How do you begin the process of creating art?
The beginning of a painting usually starts with some words quickly written down in one of my many note books,a phrase or a sentence or a single word often with a scribbled sketch of the image,I have lots of scraps of paper with ideas on.I often visualise the colours straight away or the type face I want to paint.I don’t spend long at all on this stage,it’s straight to paper or canvas.
4 What do you like about the print process?
I find the print process compelling.I love to edit & to create something new again out of an existing image.I Love the colours we can make plus the can-do attitude of everyone around me at the Jealous print studio is seductive, such a positive force of energy,no short cuts & everyone looking towards a strong finished piece.
5 Final Question if you had $49,000 to invest in an artist who would it be?
Right now if I had $49,000 I would see what I could buy by Joe Tilson or Eduardo Paolozzi.Love them both.
