After receiving a £1.2 million grant, The Heritage Lottery Fund intend to turn Jimi Hendrix’s old London flat into a museum, recreating the interior with pieces of his life, work and musical legacy, as well as historically accurate furnishings.
Located in the attic of a Georgian townhouse in Mayfair, the flat was lived in by Hendrix and his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham from 1968 onwards, both of whom paid just £30 a week in rent. The musician later described the residence as “the only home he ever had”.
