Damien Hirst—Deific 2013 Silkscreen print with glitter 1624 x 1359 mm Edition of 50

“I’ve got an obsession with death … But I think it’s like a celebration of life rather than something morbid.”

Damien Hirst

These works are based on Hirst ‘Kaleidoscope’ paintings, in which butterfly wings are placed in household paint to create intricate geometric patterns. This iconic series features Hirst’s most enduring ‘universal triggers’ and dates back to 2001 when the works were originally inspired by Victorian tea trays. The addition of glitter on these silkscreen prints adds another dimension and highlights the beauty the butterflies retain in death.
