The British Museum attracted record visitors last year the highest in its 260-year history
They have recorded a record rise in their visitor numbers in the same week they expect to receive a £2m cut to their government funding in the spending review.
They registered the busiest May in their history, with admissions up 42% on last year, contributing to record visitor numbers of 1.7m in the past three months. At their annual review on Tuesday, the museum said they had retained their crown as the most visited attraction in the UK for the sixth year running, with 5.57m visitors in 2012.
