Christie’s auction house has produced a new three part series of short videos that focus on the life and legacy of renowned artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. The project is divided into a beginning, middle and end, with each chapter featuring a unique figure with a personal connection to the artist. Part one, “The Beginning”, features close friend, Al Diaz, reflecting on their reactions to the world around them as young men; Part two, “The Artist”, sees fellow artist and contemporary, Toxic, talk about Basquiat’s style and the scene they were involved in, while part 3, “The Legacy”, somewhat surprisingly sees an interview with musician, Macklemore, on how the artist inspired him (which makes for a somewhat strange ending), but nonetheless, there are some nice moments shared throughout the series.
