Alteria Art?s motive is to work closely with a diverse range of visual artists to create high quality limited edition printed matter. For the first of Alteria Art?s productions, the founders Alix Janta and Lauren Jones (of Art Barter notoriety) have commissioned a select group of ten artists to bring together a coherent collection of black and white etchings, all of the same size, and elaborated around the designated theme of “The Human Body”.

Participating artists are Mat Collishaw, Rachel Howard, Abigail Lane, Tom Gallant, Boo Saville, Hugo Wilson, Ian Bruce, Charlie Billingham, Byzantia North and Phoebe Collings- James. Including emerging artists side by side with established international talent provides a rare opportunity to be reviewed as equals with the focus remaining on the artistic quality of the work as opposed to the context that it is presented in.

The artists offer their personal vision and individual insight on the theme of ?The Human Body?, meditating on endless possibilities of interpretations. The subject is tackled as the ultimate icon of human caducity; investigated as abstract form or sectioned in its different parts; depicted as humorous, grotesque and uncanny figures; illustrative and suggestive; the body as a source of pain, pleasure, fear and happiness; its physiology but also its spirituality.

Each artist?s etching is in edition of 25 and will be available in the format of exclusive hand made box sets including one etching by each of the contributing artists to complete a series that in itself becomes a work of art certain to become desirable collector?s item.

To promote a better understanding and appreciation of the artistic value and craftsmanship behind the production of etchings, Alteria Art in association with Arcane Studios is offering a one-day event to explore the traditional technique. On this occasion, master printmaker Ian Steadman will host an exclusive tour of his studio and selected artists will discuss their experiences of working with the media. The audience will also be able to enjoy a unique insight from the curators on the Alteria Art box sets of editions.

In an age where digital media prevails, it is important to recognise the creative relevance and the ability of long-established, talented art specialists. Although impressive, a 3D sculpture printed out from a computer screen lacks the original fascination with two distinctive components of the artistic practice: handcrafting and manual dedication.
