Things to see @LondonArtFair #3 Rob and Nick Carters Pixelated Paintings

The latest departure by Rob and Nick Carter, Pixelated Paintings, takes the notion of perception as its starting point. In the new series they enquire as to how we ‘read’ a picture and how we come to understand what it is, both visually and culturally. Are there some paintings that are so deeply embedded in our cultural psyche that we know them by sight even if they were reduced to a highly pixelated image?

The transformation that these masterpieces have undergone – from Van Gogh to Leonardo to Munch – implores the viewer to look again with a novel perspective. In their digital re-presentations the artists demonstrate that these historic paintings are all in essence a careful balancing act of colour, light and form. Exploring these central tenants has been the genesis for the Carters’ work since they partnered as artistic practitioners over fifteen years ago.

The series will be exhibited by The Fine Art Society Contemporary Stand 8 London Art Fair
