Part of our support for Moving image The Contemporary Video Art Fair is to feature some of the great galleries and artists that will be being shown next week number two The Future Gallery Berlin.

What do you understand by the term video art ?
Video art is art which comprises moving pictures, video, and/or audio.

How long have you exhibited with moving image ?
We took part in the inaugural Moving Image fair in New York in 2011.

Which artist are you showing at MI?
We will be showing The Vault by Oval Office, an artist duo made up of Jaakko Pallasvuo (FI) and Mikko Gaestel (DE/FI). The project focuses on the behavior patterns of a future middle class. OO presents its findings in the form of video and photography.

The Vault is a dual channel video work about a colony of people inhabiting a dome situated in the arctic desert. Stilted action takes place within the dome. The unnamed characters have a wish to deny basic human needs. This results in their inability to fluently interact with each other. The characters use inorganic objects and studied gestures in their attempts to overcome the social restrictions they have imposed on themselves. ovaloffice.biz

Is it easier to sell video art now ? & when you sell it what does the buyer usually get ?
I would argue that is isn’t anymore easy or difficult than it was at the first Moving Image. Nevertheless, there are specific collectors who specialize in collecting specifically video art. It was extremely proactive of Ed and Murat to have picked up on this and to have created a fair that promotes and nurtures the discourse surrounding this every expanding medium. Should someone buy a work of video art they would receive the a viewing copy of the video and two archival data copies of the video information in two different forms, usually usb stick or harddrive and dvd. The collector also receives a certificate of authenticity which outlines the terms of conditions of preserving and caring for the work.

Final question: Do you feel London is behind many other cities in its support and understanding of video art ?
I am not very familiar with London and its promotion of video art. However, I would guess judging by the expansive and well curated selection of works in the Film collection at Tate Modern that their is a great awareness of medium.
