Loredana Bonora All Photos Carlo Beccalli.
Thursday September 20th 2012 – Saturday November 10th 2012
Plusdesign presents “Nodi Contemporanei”(Contemporary Knots), the first solo exhibition of the Italian designer Loredana Bonora, which is a part of Start Milano’s opening events.
The Varese born, Italian designer’s show introduces a new collection of furnishings, tables, chairs, beds and lamps, entirely covered in Crochet and artfully woven with unusual materials combined with traditional techniques.
She covers these “iconic designs ” thus revealing new and unique personalities: through their transparency, unexpected details and provocative combinations, she gives the furniture pieces a new character, changing their the story and releasing them from their own objectivity.
With Bonora’s crochet techniques she not only recreates the objects, but also emerges them into a whole world made up of colors, feelings and soft woven lines woven with ability and extraordinary femininity. She draws upon a scenario that comes from her imagination and invites the observers to access to a dreamlike dimension, made up of subjective feelings and emotions, which are free from all formal constraints.
This unusual and winning combination and mix of non traditional” yarns – such as plastic and raffia and wire from hangers, mixed with more classic cotton and wool yarns which are then all skilfully woven together, using traditional techniques, resulting in new contemporary take on this ancient craft.
Bonora embraces traditional crochet techniques coupled with on-going creative research and the experimentation of new materials, thus creating unique, contemporary design objects of multiple perceptions.
