Opens 1st September 2012 until 26th September

Nutida Svenskt Silver will be Clarke’s first solo exhibition in Sweden and an exciting opportunity to present a new body of work using the table as his playground. He will be introducing a new family of slightly surreal characters, reworking what were hopeless unwanted objects from the past. He will give these un-loved, often mal-functioning pieces a new lease of life for the everyday. Using the common form of the jug he will toy with the notion of function and dysfunction. These objects will not only bring a smile to your face but also will celebrate the skilful nature of their construction.

Clarke is often cited as one of the UK’s most highly innovative silversmiths. As a maker he is willing to push the boundaries of his chosen discipline and has an ability to poke holes in its inflated values, and to challenge longstanding assumptions about the craft.

Glenn Adamson, Head of Research and Curator of ‘Postmodernism’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London regards Clarke as “one of the strongest silversmiths currently working and easily the most prominent avant-garde figure in the medium in the UK today.”
