Saturday 21st July 2012 6.00pm – 1.00am
At Blackall Studios 73 Leonard Street Shoreditch London ECA 4QS.

Karelle Levy is a multi faceted talent, a fact very few can dispute. She is a creative force, an artist and a fashion designer her chosen medium being textiles and fabrics.

For the past ten years, her label ‘KRELwear’ based out of Miami and now New York, has created such a buzz and a stir on the downtown scene, that it is no surprise that her collection have been picked up so extensively in the US media and worn by well known personalities such as Alanis Morrisset, Christina Ricci, Carmen Electra, Pink, Cameron Diaz and more recently Nicki Minaj who has a number of ‘KRELwear’ pieces and frequently performs in her outfits. These numerous celebrities endorsing her brand means that Karelle is one of the most exciting and hot designers of her generation.

The philosophy behind ‘KRELwear’ is the simple beauty of ‘toobular’ knit design. There are two separate lines to the collection. Unique hand loomed pieces and the diffusion production line. The ready-to-wear garments complimenting the couture collection. Both of these lines will feature a dazzling array of dresses, jumpsuits, hot shorts, skirts and tops.

Karelle’s techniques are unconventional. She uses yarn in a similar manner to a painter, mixing primary colours from the tube on the palette. The selected hues are a play on neon, with her yarn having the extraordinary quality of being UV reactive. In normal daylight the clothes are vital and vibrant. The pieces are elegant, stylish and chic yet also super sexy, bursting with fun.

Karelle knows her yarns. She selects only the best and experiments with the materialism of fabric. Through artistic exploration she has developed a signature style, her own brand that exudes personality with oodles of charisma.

This event brings together the full range of Karelle’s artistic practice and her design creations. A mini-retrospective featuring web-like installation work, multi-fabric patchwork abstractions and ‘Voodoo dolls’, loaded with cultural connotations yet presented in a playful and innocuous way.

The high-energy catwalk show will include the downstairs ‘party’ space with UV lights making Karelle’s glow-in-the-dark garments truly spectacular.

Club culture, nu rave and 24-hour party people form part of the inspiration for her ‘DiscGlo – Neon Fashion Party’. The collection capture the altered state experience, the heightened perceptions and the tripped out light fantastic.

Karelle has taken the ‘DiscGlo’ party on tour, popping up in Miami, New York, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Iceland, Berlin and now is making her London debut.

Karelle has been touted as the new Missoni with attitude. She is a multidisciplinary artist who happens to use fabric and fiber.

On the day of the event Karelle will staging her special Krel-to-go ‘Quickies’, custom clothing on the go. All items are made within an hour, using original Karelle fabrics.

‘Quickies’ will be invite only event from Noon – 5.00 pm

Larry Tee will be the guest star DJ for the ‘DiscGlo’ party – Larry is a New York legend and a dedicated fashionista.
