Following the success of its previous two years, CONVERSE and DAZED are partnering with the WHITECHAPEL GALLERY once again for the EMERGING ARTISTS AWARD. It’s open for submissions now.
The award offers an invaluable platform for emerging, unrepresented artists and has grown in prestige since its inception in 2010. This year, the esteemed judging panel includes Turner Prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller , The Times Arts Commissioning Editor Nancy Durrant, Whitechapel Gallery Curator Kirsty Ogg , Dazed & Confused Visual Arts Editor Francesca Gavin, art collective Lucky PDF and IBID Projects Director Magnus Edensvard.
The prize, open to all artists under 35, builds on Dazed, Converse and the Whitechapel Gallery’s
mutual heritage of supporting the UK’s vibrant creative community. The winning artist will receive £6,000, while the other three shortlisted artists receive £1,000. They are selected on the basis of demonstrating inventive, interesting and well- executed approaches to their work.
Last year’s winner Richard Parry commented:
“Winning the Converse/Dazed Emerging Artist Award gave me confidence when meeting with art-world figures. I felt they took me more seriously as a cultural player when pitching radical concepts and ideas for art exhibitions.”
The shortlisted artists will create original, site- specific pieces for a group show at a gallery near the Whitechapel Gallery this autumn. The winner will be announced at the Whitechapel Gallery.
