Sixth in the series of ‘In Conversations’ at Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, Paul Winstanley will be in discussion with David Campany, addressing the dynamic between painting and photography in Winstanley’s work.
Recent solo exhibitions by Paul Winstanley include Mitchell-Innes & Nash, New York; 1301PE, Los Angeles; Vera Munro, Hamburg; Kerlin Gallery, Dublin; and Artspace, Auckland. Group exhibitions include Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Galeria Pilar Serra, Madrid; Kunsthalle, Hamburg; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; The Renaissance Society, Chicago; and Tate Gallery, London. His work is represented in collections including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Tate Gallery, London; British Council; Arts Council of Great Britain and the Burger Collection, Berlin.
David Campany is a writer, curator and artist. His publications include Art and Photography (Phaidon, 2008), Jeff Wall: Picture for Women (Afterall/MIT 2011), Walker Evans: the magazine Work (Steidl, 2012) and the artist’s book Rich and Strange (Chopped Liver Press, 2012). In 2010 he co-curated Anonymes: unnamed America in Photography and Film for Le Bal, Paris. He is a Reader in Photography at the University of Westminster, London.
