GOSEE: Now Not Never group show at the Carmichael gallery

Now Not Never

September 10th to 24th 2011
Carmichael Gallery 5795 Washington Blvd. Culver City, CA 90232
Now Not Never will be shown in Carmichael’s main gallery and adjoining project .
This group exhibition will feature a selection of works from artists Rob Brander, Kyle De Lotto, Daniel Desure, Gregor Gaida, Simon Haas, Maya Lujan and Lisa Solberg, whose practices span a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, photography, mixed media, wood and light, and who together explore the ongoing dialogue, contrast and communion between the abstract and figurative elements in contemporary art.

About the Artists:

Rob Brander
Rob Brander was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Wisconsin. He received a BFA in Art History and Photography from the University of Arizona. Rob lives and works in Los Angeles.

Kyle De Lotto
Kyle De Lotto was born in New Jersey and educated in Baltimore (Maryland Institute College of Art). He lives and works in Los Angeles.

Daniel Desure
Daniel DeSure has worked as a visual artist and art producer in Los Angeles for the past 5 years. He earned his undergraduate degree at the California Institute of Arts in 2000, studying experimental film and video. Daniel lives and works in Los Angeles.

Gregor Gaida
Gregor Gaida merges timelessly classic ideals with an unquestionably contemporary sensitivity. Characterized by a muted palette and meticulous employment of texture, both his figurative and more abstract expressions feel all but alive. Gregor lives and works in Bremen, Germany.

Simon Haas
Best known for his elegantly executed, subtly hued portraits of himself and others, Simon Haas will present new oils on canvas that break down his models and still life settings into greater abstraction. Simon lives and works in Los Angeles.

Maya Lujan
Maya Lujan earned a BFA at Art Center, then a MFA at University of Southern California. Trained as a classical painter, her sculptures merge object and painting with a tendency toward abstraction. These works also explore the concepts of spatiality and essentialism, which the artist seeks to define, in various ways, through installation. Maya lives and works in Los Angeles.

Lisa Solberg
Lisa Solberg is not your usual LA suspect. She prefers walking to driving her car and praises the bus for crosstown travel. She is neither lonely nor glamorous. She possesses a true dual nature. Since moving from her hometown of Chicago four years ago, she resides in downtown Los Angeles, the heart of the city’s frontier and the contemporary art world at large, for that matter.
A vigorous and fluid painter, Solberg has exhibited widely in the US with solo and group shows from Los Angeles to New York. The work’s atmospheric appearance and painterly facture continually question the very nature of painting, regardless of whether her process leads to abstraction or figuration. Lisa holds a BFA from University of Colorado, Boulder.
