Friday 1st July 2011, Queen Elizabeth Hall, 7.30pm, £14/£10
Hear Gilbert & George, the irrepressible masters of the contemporary art world, in conversation with critic and writer Michael Bracewell.
Instantly recognisable for making an artwork of themselves, from the beginning Gilbert & George have wanted to communicate beyond the narrow confines of the art world, adopting the slogan ‘Art for All’. Their work encompasses a huge range of emotions and themes, from rural idylls to a decaying, urban London, and from sex advertisements to religious fundamentalism, varying in scale from large paintings to the postcard art that they celebrate in their most recent exhibition Urethra Postcard Art.
The artists will sign copies of their new two-volume publication, The Complete Postcard Art of Gilbert & George, after the event.
