Marialuisa Tadei at Hay Hill Gallery Private View Tuesday 7th June 2011

6th June – 9th July
In June Hay Hill Gallery presents a solo show of the extraordinary work by Marialuisa Tadei. Here Tadei continues to develop compelling and metaphorical works by constructing pieces of art that bridge the gap between the material world and one of spiritual dimensions. Tadei’s biomorphic abstractions blend artistic design elements into organic shapes and patterns evocative of nature. The
works posses an ethereal quality to them, as if the artist has plucked the works from a dream.

The works on show are a diverse selection of Marialuisa Tadei’s innovative sculptures. The artist takes a contemporary approach in her use of materials which are often historically potent with notions of beauty and seduction, utilising ancient artistic techniques such as mosaic, thus stretching the viewer’s imagination and expanding the boundaries of ‘traditional’ use of materials.

The sensitive choice of mediums not only shows a great technical skill but also alters the viewer’s perception of ‘lightness’ and ‘heaviness’. This combination of polar opposites also manifests as a metaphor for life and death, organic verses technological and notions of ‘what weighs us down’, and ‘what can release us’ can often play a paradoxical role in Tadeis work.

When confronted by Tadei’s work, one is thrusted into the deep psyche of the artist, into an alternate world made up of folds of colour and light, darting lines and solid form, where weightless materials become dense and heavy, where nothing is what it seems.
