Maximilian Wiedemann at IMITATE MODERN Private View Thursday 10th March 2011

A new gallery “IMITATE MODERN” will be showcasing exclusively the art of Maximilian Wiedemann. Throughout his work, the artist deals with status symbols and the interplay of sex and money in contemporary society.

The gallery will open with an exclusive private party on the 10th of March displaying classic and new works by Maximillian Wiedemann, including his latest neons “Closer to God in Heels” and “Love Sucks”, as well as a new painting of the iconic supermodel Kate Moss.

His painting of Elle MacPherson which was used as the cover of The Big Issue late last year will also be on show as well as the signed bus shelter poster Max painted of Adele for VH1 Diva’s, which appealed to a mass audience when it was featured on Perez Hilon’s blog.

The gallery’s name continues Max’s use of status symbol allegories such as “Rolex” – “Relax” and the subversion of “Dom Perignon” into “Bore-Dom”. Imitate Modern will be the epicenter of all Maximilian Wiedemann’s art sales and distribution to galleries in London, Paris, Geneva, New York and the rest of the world.

In the words of the artist himself:
“I’m excited to be opening a gallery in London, which is the hub of of sex, money and power.
I’ve been observing what’s happening in Europe’s most kicking City – the powerplay between the sexes- how status symbols are being used to impress and attract the opposite sex… at Imitate Modern I’ll explore these relationships.
What do we want? Money and prestige. I will bring it to the masses. The best way to make a billion is to print it yourself. That’s what I’m doing!
We are going to see lots of new collections in this space, in fact we are going to treat the gallery a bit like a fashion collection – Imitate Modern is something of a designer’s showroom for my works.
Imitate Modern will explore our current fast paced society and how money dominates our relationships and how the two most important things in our lives, money and love, work with and against each other.”
My question is – who put the ass in class anyway?”
