In the cycle ‘Female Abstractions’ of 4 female artists at Gallery Tatiana Tournemine, 104, Rue du Faubourg St. Honoré, Paris – France, a solo exhibition of Esther Barend will take place from January 31 until February 5 2011.
Esther is a Dutch painter, living in Belgium, exhibiting from New York, Amsterdam, Basel to Paris. To look at the paintings of Esther Barend is a real experience. The spectator is taken along into a vortex of a dynamic range of colours. With one look at the painting, one will be immediately immersed in a powerful flow of lines, which takes the spectator along into an archaic world where the laws of primary nature rule. Here you find the order, which is, paradoxically, not mutated by human interference. One can see biotopes for the origin of the fantasy, which enables human beings to design beautiful myths of creation. The representations connect ‘arising’ and the appearances of ‘existence’, or between ‘becoming’ and ‘being’. It is the artist who mediates between the underworld and the world above.
The transparent worlds which appear in Esther’s paintings are still miles away from the limited fixation, which the regulation in the world above has acquired from society.
With her creations, Esther Barend allows to feel a temporary freedom by transporting us into a blank and yet unexplored underworld, which satisfies rather quickly the voyager’s longing for adventure. ‘Seeing’ becomes experiencing a world of possibilities, still unattached to the future fixations, which will follow the perception.
