Gabriel Dubois Answers FADs Questions

1 If you weren’t an artist, what else would you be?
Maybe a wandering date farmer, or could still be cooking eggs in that greasy spoon on Main and Broadway.

2 Name 3 of your least favourite artists.
I generally pay attention to ones that get me stoked rather than ones that don’t.

3. Anytime, any place – which artist’s body would you most like to inhabit?
Animal from the Muppet show or Dizzy Gillespie in his Heyday

7 Which artists would you most like to rip off, sorry, I mean appropriate as a critique of originality and authorship?

I find ripping myself off or rather Out works the best, but im really feeling Tal R, Stefan Marx, Tjorg Douglas Beer and Thomas Sheibitz.

8 Do you care what your art costs? State your reasons!
Im a happy camper if I can make a living with my art but I could really use a banging live/ work studio in Iceland with my own solar farm and an indoor skate park so I might have to hike the prices up in the near future.

9 What are the three big ideas that you would like your work to express?
For me the image is an idea composed of many interactive elements
which are balancing upon and challenging one another. Information is
translated through form, space and color into a sort of visual mapping system. Anything and everything in my immediate environment can
effect this filtration process and the visual perception. Hopefully my work mirrors my habitats, the human condition and the time we live in.

10 Are you a political artist?
Some work is a response to the System and borders put up around us more so than being politically charged.

11 How do you start the process of making work?

Make a splodge, pull er out nice and easy, have a ponder, than a tight kink depending on which way she’s hanging, erase, ponder, make tea.

12 What next?
A Kayak trip through Scotland to brighten up those abandoned fishery units.

13 If Moma and the Tate and the Pompidou wanted to acquire one of your works each, which would you want them to have?
They do not exist yet, might give birth to them this year.
