Coinciding with the major exhibition Shah ‘Abbas: the Remaking of Iran, three displays across the museum by artists from Iran and Pakistan focus on aspects of the relationship and influence of the Iranian past on artists today. Takhti: a modern Iranian hero by Khosrow Hassanzadeh features an Iranian wrestler who died in 1968 and became an icon. Parviz Tanavoli’s bold, red Heech sculpture demonstrates the enduring beauty and versatility of the Persian script. Safavids Revisited features Iranian artist Sadegh Tirafkan and two artists of the Lahore school, Khadim Ali and Muhammad Zeeshan. In each of their works the Persian arts of the book have been readapted and given new meaning.
