The Counter Terrorism Act allows for the arrest and imprisonment of anyone whose pictures are “likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism”.
The police can also stop any photographer they feel may be ‘inflaming a situation’.
The NUJ is joining with campaigners to organise a mass picture taking session outside New Scotland Yard tomorrow – the day the act becomes law. To make a very clear statement that photography is not a crime and we are photographers not terrorists.
Be great if you could make it down to New Scotland Yard tomorrow 11am.
