09.02.09 – 22.02.09
Carnaby Pop-Up Gallery 63 Broadwick Street W1
In this compelling new exhibition Sara Shamsavari combines photography and the written word to reveal and celebrate love in its many manifestations.
We are living in an uncertain time of change – social, political and economic – but throughout these shifts and upheavals, love endures as a constant force – itself a driver of change. Love has the power to change the way we think, feel and live today.
The Persian poet Hafiz says “Love is but one secret, yet none of its many expressions resembles another.” Sara reflects the truth of her compatriot’s poem with her own visualpoetry, unveiling the many faces of love.
The artist’s subjects stand translucent before her, radiating their love towards one another, rewarding her genuine interest and affection for them. Like Sara’s previous works, Love is Change celebrates the diversity and the essential unity of the human experience.
In a troubled world of division, materialism and conflict, Shamsavari’s photographs show us that love’s presence can still be seen all around, reminding us of its potential to heal, unite and transform.
Visitors are also encouraged to engage directly in the exhibition by recording on paper their thoughts on the transformational power of love. These notes will be displayed in an interactive space forming part of the overall show In complement to the exhibition the debut of a short film by artist Ashton John will be aired in
addition to a floral installation on the title “Love is Change” created by sponsor Thinking Flowers.
The Private View will take place on Monday February the 9th and will include music, poetry and film. 10% of profits made from the sale of prints will be donated to Amnesty International and Minority Rights Group International.
