PV review 01/02/2007 – Christian Marclay, Koen van de Broek at White Cube and Shay Kun at Seventeen Gallery

Started of at the Foundry I got there early as usual and everyone else was late, which actually was great took a couple of photos nice one off a pint of beer (below).

Phil was the first to arrive followed by Gordon over 30 minutes late hmmm, then came Wayne, Jim and finally Holly.

After a few more beers etc off we went first stop was White Cube for Christian Marclay then Koen van den Broek whose paintings where upstairs. First we saw Christian who was  showing some prints of words ripped from comics which where quite nice very well put together I didnt actually read the words just liked the shapes and the rips which probably wasnt the point but there ya go.

Next was the video installation and this was great I encourage anyone who hasnt been to go the noise and flashing of guns being shot in all direction all around was great and I really liked the way it slowed down then speeded up again v good. A couple of women mentioned it was a guy thing but as I was with a group of guys I couldnt really tell if this was true. But I suppose a lot of blokes and girls shooting of pistols and machine guns is a bit blokey. It was also weird to hear the people who where into the makes of the gns used!! and the film/tv buffs who spoted where the foootage came from.

After this I went up stairs to see Koens paintings and this was a bit of a damp squib after what we experienced downstairs very minimal kinda like a snapshot of colour ,this stuff always looks so easy to do but when you can see somone who does it really well it really puts other people in the shade I thought Koen was ok but that might be becase Id just experienced loads of people shooting at me.

Next was Seventeen Gallery and Shay Kun Landscapes painted in the style of 19th century landscapes with up to date stuff dropped in- the technique was pretty good just think the ideas a bit bit done to death – the fact he painted the lanscapes himself and didnt just appropriate them shows he can but I dont really care.

Then we headed to the Owl and Pussy cat and finally ended up at a new private bar thing ……..phil and gordon a t the owl and the pussycat
