Mayfair Art Weekend relaunches in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts

Mayfair Art Weekend

This summer, Mayfair Art Weekend, will bring the cultural landscape of Mayfair to life with a weekend of free and engaging events, exhibitions and talks, showcasing the diverse creative offering of one of the world’s most historic art districts. Building on the success of Brown’s London Art Weekend, the relaunched Mayfair Art Weekend 2017 in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, will see over 60 participating galleries and auction houses in Mayfair and St James’s open their doors to the public.

Mayfair Art Weekend will welcome local and international visitors to discover Mayfair’s rich cultural heritage; a seat of creativity and world-class expertise and home to Britain’s longest-running art school, the RA Schools, established in 1769. The weekend will present a unique opportunity for art lovers to explore the capital’s private galleries, the programme will once again include The Gallery HOP! and curated talks and Mayfair tours with leading experts offering direct access to the wealth of knowledge in Mayfair. This free public programme will run alongside a Collector’s Programme in conjunction with Brown’s Hotel.

The Royal Academy will serve as a central hub providing visitors with more information about the wide range of open galleries and activities on offer. Throughout the weekend, an extensive free arts festival will take place in the RA Courtyard and across Burlington House, featuring a number of temporary artworks, creative workshops, music, dance, street-food and performances. The festival will coincide with the RA Schools Show, the annual exhibition of works by emerging artists graduating from the RA Schools, and the 249th Summer Exhibition, the world’s largest open submission exhibition.

Charles Saumarez Smith, Secretary and Chief Executive of the Royal Academy said:

“In the lead up to the Royal Academy’s 250th anniversary in 2018, and the launch of our transformed site at Burlington Gardens, we are delighted to partner with the Mayfair Art Weekend in bringing the art community together to open up and celebrate this special place. Not only is Mayfair the heart of creativity in central London but it is one of the most dynamic art districts in the world.”
