Over The Rainbow (41.28 min Digital Video)
Inspired by the Technicolor utopias of children’s television, Over The Rainbow invites the viewer into a shape-shifting world inhabited by cuddly monsters, faceless clones and gruesome pop divas. Shot entirely using green-screen the film presents a synthetic, computer generated landscape and explores a dark, comedic parody of the Faustian tale, fairy story and horror movie genres.

About The Artist
Rachel Maclean (b.1987) is an artist based in Glasgow who makes glowing, hyper-saturated videos using green screen technology and computer animation. Producing the costumes, make up and sets and playing all the characters herself, Maclean creates disturbing yet hilarious narratives that blend appropriated present day pop cultural material with a multitude of narrative references. For Invites Maclean will present Over The Rainbow, 2013 (41.28 min, Digital Video). Inspired by the Technicolor utopias of children’s television, the video is inhabited by cuddly monsters and gruesome pop divas, exploring a dark, comedic parody of the Faustian tale, fairy story and horror movie genres. Since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009, Maclean has exhibited across the UK and internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include I HEART SCOTLAND, at the Edinburgh Printmakers and Quick Child, Run! at Trade Gallery, Nottingham. In 2013, Maclean received the Margaret Tait Award and was shortlisted for the Film London Jarman Award.
