Simple First-Date Fashion Tips for Nervous Men

Men may seem to have it all under control when it comes to first dates, but in reality, they are as nervous about it as women are. Most of the time, this fear stems from a lack of self-confidence, a concern that can be greatly exacerbated if you have no idea what to wear on your first date. Not only may your date be taken aback by your poor fashion choices, but your nervousness is also unlikely to score you any additional brownie points. Thankfully, a few basic tips will make it significantly easier to pick the perfect outfit and calm your nerves at the same time.

Don’t make over-ambitious fashion choices

Although there is nothing wrong with having a quirky fashion sense, you might want to forgo wearing your neon-green turtleneck or leopard-print pants on the first date. Instead, opt for dark or neutral colours that are especially well-suited to a night-time date. If you have opted to have your first date before the sun goes down, you will have a bit more flexibility as far as your colour scheme is concerned. You may choose to wear a lighter wash of jeans, and even pair them with a white or pastel-coloured shirt. Whatever you choose to wear, just remember that although less is definitely more, a little bit of fun has never hurt anyone.

Pay attention to the details

If you want to find (and keep) a girlfriend, you need to make an effort to groom yourself. Although you do not have to look like you have stepped out of a GQ Magazine every day, you can ensure that your clothes look respectable and your personal hygiene is on point. If you make an effort with your appearance, you will automatically feel more confident, which can be key in impressing your date. Pay attention to the smaller details of your outfit as much as you do your ultimate fashion choices. Whatever you wear should be clean, in good condition, and wrinkle-free. If your shirts or jackets are missing a button, replace them, and make sure you brush off all lint or pet hair before getting dressed.

Although you definitely want to put effort into what you wear on your first date, it is important to consider the location. Your date will undoubtedly be dressing for the occasion, and so should you. If you are heading for dinner at an elegant restaurant, you will want to look sophisticated. Alternatively, if you are meeting at a laid-back pub or going to the movies, a pair of nice-fitting jeans and a fashionable shirt will suffice. Aim to look your best, but avoid wearing anything that will make you look uncomfortable and out of place.

Going on a first date can be a nerve-racking experience. Luckily, finding the right outfit to wear will not only boost your confidence: it will impress your date accordingly too.
