Every season provides fashion lovers with an opportunity to experiment with their personal style, sample the latest trends and find a look that complements their skin tone, body shape and, most importantly, their personality.

To exude confidence this season and become synonymous with forward-thinking fashion, continue reading to discover the finest looks for spring/summer 2020, which are sure to transform any dull winter wardrobe.

Fresh White Dresses

There is no reason to wait until your wedding day to wear white. The neutral shade is set to become an on-trend colour for spring 2020, as white dresses have dominated many designers’ catwalks in recent months, appearing in collections from Louis Vuitton, Prada, Alexander McQueen, and Molly Goddard, to name only a few. Floaty linen, Japanese satin and marguerite lace are sure to be a hit this season, which could be ideal for a garden party or a major sporting event during spring or summer.

For example, if you don’t want to look out of place in the stands at Wimbledon this year, an all-white dress will suit the summertime sporting event and its clothing etiquette. You can guarantee you’ll naturally blend with the crowd when enjoying a glass of Pimm’s or cheering on the likes of Roger Federer or Serena Williams.

If, however, you’re attending the US Masters this April and don’t want to stick out like a sore thumb when rooting for the likes of Rory McIlroy or Tiger Woods, who are currently the favorites at Oddschecker, you should pick up a stunning white dress, which can complement the event’s preppy, clean cut dress code. You could also match the white dress with a cute denim jacket, a pretty pair of pumps and a simple headband.

Go Neon

Conversely, you could go neon this spring or summer, which is sure to make you stand out in a crowd and can introduce a splash of colour into your winter wardrobe. While it takes a brave fashionista to wear luminous yellow, pink, green or orange, you can guarantee many people will remember your look as you pass them by in the street, which will become your very own runway. Valentino is believed to be the brand behind the new trend, as the Italian fashion designer featured a series of fuchsia, green, and yellow looks in his most recent collection. Rei Kawakubo has also been inspired by the style, as neon features heavily in the various costumes she is designing for Olga Neuwirth’s adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando at the Vienna State Opera.

Wear a Waistcoat

Kate Moss, one of the biggest supermodels of all time, is well-known for her love of the waistcoat. If you cast your mind back to Glastonbury 2005, you might remember how she paired a tailored black waistcoat with micro shorts, which defined her iconic Noughties style. Well, you can expect the garment to fall back into high street and designer clothing ranges this season, as it recently appeared in the Saint Laurent spring/summer 2020 collection and was worn by Kaia Gerber, an American model.

Try a Topical Print

Fashionistas will not forget J-Lo’s tropical printed chiffon dress, which she wore to the Grammys in 2000 and broke the internet with way before Kim Kardashian. While the style might have simmered away over the past two decades, it’s set to make its return this spring/summer season. Tropical print has made an appearance in many notable designers’ recent collections, including Fendi, Marni and Dolce & Gabbana. So, forget the pretty floral print and go bold with a tropical pattern. You will not regret it.

Showcase Your Shoulders with Puffed Sleeves

Puffed sleeves have been spotted on the runways for multiple high-profile designers, such as Zimmerman, Huishan Zhang and Richard Quinn. While 2019 witnessed a few puffed sleeves, they are set to become all the rage this year. There are, of course, variations to complement your style and taste, such as puffed sleeves that make their way down your arm or styles that only swell on your shoulders. It’s a look that’s bound to grab people’s attention.

Experiment with Sheer

If you’re not afraid to show a little skin once the sun starts to shine, consider experimenting with sheer this season. For example, you could wear a high-quality sheer shirt over a plain vest or dress. It is a superb way to have some fun with both textures and silhouettes. If you’re looking for style inspiration, check out the recent collections from House of Holland, Richard Malone and Supriya Lele.

The Flexible Shirt Dress

Every fashion lover should have at least one shirt dress hanging in their closet. While they have always been in style, you can expect to see an explosion of designs hitting stores near you come spring and summer. It’s a flexible garment you shouldn’t overlook, as it can look great when out shopping, in the office or during a date night with your other half.

Stand Out in a Short Suit

Those looking for a fabulous alternative to a pretty dress should pick up a short suit. There are many stunning single- and double-breasted blazers that can complement tailored shorts featuring oversized pockets; this will ensure you look sleek and stylish this spring/summer season. You can also make a fashion statement by wearing a bold block print or you can look more formal by selecting neutral tones. It’s the one outfit in your closet that you’ll find yourself reaching for time and again.

Complement the Season with Mixed Florals

Mixed florals will ensure your spring and summer is bursting with flowers and color. For example, Isabel Marant recently launched a unique collection of floral on floral clothing, which can perfectly complement the sunny seasons. For example, one outfit will feature two floral prints, which will be an ideal look for a day at the park or on the beach.

Stick with the Boilersuit

Boilersuits were a big hit in 2019. If you stocked up on the styles, you’ll be happy to know they are expected to be just as popular this year, if not more so. Plus, you’ll have another opportunity to get in on the trend if you failed to do so last year. While it does take a brave person to wear the outfit, you can guarantee you will establish yourself as a fashion aficionado if you don a bold pattern or block print. Turn to the likes of Chanel for boilersuit inspiration, so you can create a jaw-dropping look that will make others envious of your unique and daring style.

So, if you want to look undeniably stylish throughout spring and summer, you should follow the above trends – adding your own twist, of course.
