Peter J Amdam is the curator of a group show at Blain|Southern entitled ‘REFRACTION. THE IMAGE OF SENSE
The exhibition

brings together artists who in very different ways accentuate how art operates in an era of new media, in a world which is organically and indiscernibly both human and non-human at the same time.

FAD managed to catch up with Peter and ask him a few questions about the exhibition and also which artists to buy into ..

1 Who are you?
That I ask myself every morning when I look myself in the mirror. In the reflection I just hear an echo of someone else’s answer: “I am Metaphysics.”

2 Why are you interested in this kind of Art ?
This art is after me. It’s not a question of free will but of contingent necessity.

3 What are the threads (if any) that connect the work on show ?
Intensity as information and intensity as light and intensity as force.

4 Does the setting change the perception of this work ?
Always and already.

5 The work seems very New York late 1970’s Art Scene ?
It’s more late 80s New York—one of those days when you were charged with biscuit power and headed for the Dragon’s Lair.

6 Won’t it be the artists born in the mid to late 90’s who will truly be able to express this post human art? people who have always been ‘on’ and have always had the web ?
No, that would be entrusting the temporal dichotomy between man and technology with too much power of definition. There is no such dichotomy anyway.

7 If you had $50,000 which artist/ artists would you buy into ?
Ida Ekblad, Elias Hansen, Lars Holdhus, Yngve Holen, Michael Manning, Magali Reus, Timur Si-Qin, and Michael Staniak.
