ARTIST OPPORTUNITY: Last chance to enter this year’s prestigious Threadneedle Prize

Overview

Artists have just two weeks left to enter The Threadneedle Prize 2014.

Figurative art is more than ever at the forefront of contemporary art practice and is always a subject of debate.  With many high profile art prizes tending towards conceptual and abstract works, The Threadneedle Prize deliberately sets out to examine figurative art today, producing a comprehensive current survey.’

The Threadneedle Prize is an annual art prize that aims to showcase the best in contemporary figurative art.

Key dates

The deadline for entry is 10 July 2014 at 12 noon. Entry is online via the Threadneedle website.

Pre-selection notification will be on 10 July, with long-listed artists expected to send in their work on 27 & 28 July 2014.

Shortlisted artists will be notified on 1 August 2014.

Restrictions

The competition is only open to practising artists aged 18 and over (on 1 January 2014) working in the UK and Europe.

Candidates can submit paintings, drawings, original prints, sculpture, mixed media constructions, small scale installations and reliefs. Artists are encouraged to submit fresh and intriguing works that are strong and topical observations or interpretations on the world around us. Photography and video entries are only accepted if they form part of a mixed media installation.

All work must be available for sale, and will be made available at the exhibition (the Mall Galleries take a commission of 45% on any sales).

Cost of entry

Entry costs is £12 per work (including VAT). This is non-refundable if the work isn’t shortlisted.

A maximum of five works can be submitted, and must have been completed after 1 January 2013.

The Prize

The winner of the 2014 Threadneedle Prize will receive a cash prize of £20,000 plus his/ her one-week exhibition at Mall Galleries in 2015.

Each of the five other shortlisted artists will receive £1,000, plus every work selected for the exhibition is eligible to win the Visitors’ Choice Award and £10,000 in cash.

The judging panel

The Threadneedle Prize 2014 judging panel includes Nancy Durrant (Arts Commissioning Editor and an Art Critic at The Times), Kevin Francis Gray (artist), Whitney Hintz (independent advisor and Curator of the Hiscox Collection), and John Martin (Director of the John Martin Gallery, and Founder and Director of Art Dubai).
