During this year’s Frieze Art Fair a wave of young artists hosted fringe exhibitions and events attracting top ticket art sales from an international crowd of collectors and investors. Among these 32 year old Stuart Semple conceived an exhibition of brand new works over two floors of The Heritage Rooms in Bloomsbury Square.

Suspend Disbelief was the latest exhibition in a series of major international pop-up shows by the artist following successful exhibitions in Milan, Hong Kong & NYC. Exploring concurrent themes of life, death and entertainment the exhibition included holograms, an inflatable jumping floor and several immersive video artworks, as well as a range of brand new large scale paintings. The Bauer Art Foundation purchased fourteen paintings, ranging from £30,000 – £66,000, ahead of the exhibition opening. With current exhibition sales figures standing at $1.9 million Suspend Disbelief looks like it will completely sell out before the end of the month.

Stuart’s work is owned by collectors such as Noel & Sarah Gallagher, Debbie Harry, Sienna Miller, Dhani Harrison & Slavica Ecclestone amongst others. His works also feature in the collections of major international art foundations; Niarchos, Getty, Langen and David Roberts.

Later this month Semple will take part in a group exhibition at Victoria Miro Gallery alongside the likes of Anthony Gormley, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Anish Kapoor and Rachel Whiteread for Dramatic Need.

Early 2014 will see two major shows for Melbourne and Sydney, in the wake of his public installation ‘Jump’, a giant bouncing bed that attracted a record breaking 10,000 visitors to Melbourne’s Federation Square.
