Pop-Up Circus III at The Arch Gallery Thursday 7th June 2012

The Arch Gallery, 289 Railway Arches, Cambridge Heath Road, London, E2 9HA Thursday 7th June 3pm – 2am Art exhibition, live music, short films, food stalls, bar, live art, performance and spoken word. Performances start 6pm.

It’s time for another Pop-Up Circus!
The exhibition opens to the public at 3pm and there will be a fantastic multi-disciplinary live show from 6pm to 2am, featuring live music, short films, food stalls, a bar, live art, performance and spoken word.

Live music will include modern adaptations of renaissance lute music from Octandre Ensemble, featuring award-winning composer Christian Mason on Theremin and virtuoso guitarist Sam Cave, a large improvising ensemble led by Trumpeter/Composer Laura Jurd working in dialogue with live art by Trevor Simmons, a set from global party band Karama led by Morrocan oud player Soufian Saihi. Recently returned from New Zealand, the acclaimed classical soprano Anna Edgington, performing modern interpretations of Mozart and Handel, featuring guitarist Alex Roth and the electronics of Joe Wright.

There will be screenings of short films by upcoming directors, including Laura Bushell’s Murder Disco and Aleksandra Lazarovski’s Cloud Of Fine Particles. There will be a reading/performance by writer Jo Waterhouse and homemade food will be available at food stalls. The Emporium, an initiative started by artists Jess Charleston and Chloe Edwards, will be running a stall with various activities, Including pinhole camera photography.

Karama
Karama is an exciting London-based band, led by Moroccan Oud player Soufian Saihi. His compositions are based around oud, clarinet, double bass and percussion. The music wonders brilliantly through diverse sonic landscapes that range from Tinariwen to Alice Coltrane, superbly funky and beautifully melodic.
With members from Venezuela, Japan, Morocco and the UK, Karama is an utterly unique experience.

Octandre Ensemble
Performing adaptations of John Dowland’s lute music is this unusual pairing of Theremin and Guitar. Octandre Ensemble members Christian Mason and guitarist Sam Cave will perform
