Through to 6th May 2012, at Art Work Space.

This weekend GOSEE: British talent, Becky Allen. her show, entitled: NOX,features the artist’s characteristic, intricate line-drawn work, capturing the science of sleep.

With no objective way to measure, record or preserve dreams, Allen has used neurological data to create a series of visual representations of brain activity during respective periods of dormancy.

In NOX, she responds further to her study of the differing states of consciousness, with the aim of visualising that which cannot be seen, but experienced by all: the paradox of sleep. Through her work, she translates the logical and tangible results of scientific findings into the ethereal and surreal landscapes reminiscent of haunting dreamscapes.

Allen graduated from the prestigious Camberwell College of Art Graphic Design course and is now half way through the illustrious MA programme at the Royal College of Art.

This year, she was selected to partake in the Leverhulme Trust-funded ‘Art School Educated’ research project at the Tate: ‘Re-imagining the Line: Drawing Lessons for the Twenty-First Century.’

Of her work, Allen explains: ‘The ideas behind my work are transforming and evolving with further experimentation and study of the science behind the conscious, unconscious and subconscious mind. With investigation into extreme detail, I extract that which is becoming something else. This exhibition marks the start of where my new work is taking me.’
