London based artist Robert Clarke is currently exhibiting at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery in New York. ‘Robert Clarke the Dog Painter – The New York Tour’ is a week long tour that will follow-on from this solo show. Throughout this exciting pop-up travelling event, dog owners will be able to book a time slot to organise a commission at their chosen venue or home. Robert will then meet and photograph the dog and portraits will be ready for collection the next day – the perfect doggy Christmas present!

The exhibition celebrates and recognises how important New Yorkers’ dogs, and dogs in general, have become to the urban fabric of the world’s most iconic city.

Robert has been painting dogs for over 10 years. After being attacked by a dog, as a young boy, he spent most of his early life scared of them. It wasn’t until his girlfriend convinced him that they should get a Jack Russell that he found himself being drawn to paint and hence celebrate dogs visually. Robert’s painting style allows the true character of his sitters to be revealed. His work has proved to be very popular in both the art and fashion worlds.. Recent commissions include the furry companions of jewellery designer and Vogue contributor Katie Hillier and LOVE editor and fashionista Katie Grand.

Robert graduated from the prestigious St. Martins School of Art in London. His artwork has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Robert has been involved in a variety of exciting commissions including: ‘British Birds and Dogs’ an exhibition at the Paul Smith flagship store in Sloane Square; a selection of bird paintings showcased at the Zetter Space and most recently a commission to illustrate and write Loewe’s special book entitled ‘The Masters of Leather’. Roberts ‘A-Z of dogs’ London edition prints are currently available to buy at Liberty’s.
