GO+DO: DALSTON’S ROYAL GET TOGETHER 28TH & 29TH APRIL 2011

Dalston’s home-grown, two-day music and arts festival is proud to announce the final names to the 2011 programme. Hot new acts now include Belgian mix wizards 2manyDJs, hybrid rave-duo of Drums of Death and Mumdance aka Mums of Death and hyped Dalston band D/R/U/G/S. Bass and dub heads will get their fix with Hyponik, Funkineven and Om Unit, whilst selectors Eeek Empire, Soul Jazz Soundsystem and Wild Geese join the event’s dancefloor action.

Land of Kings is also pleased to announce a new, exclusive collaboration between Absolut Vodka and multi-media director extraordinaire, Saam Farahmand. ‘Absolut Dalston’ will roll into the festival on Thursday 28th with a ‘shooting party’, filming festival attendees dancing, which will then be used as live, remixed visuals for the next night’s party. On Friday 29th, Saam curates an almighty one-off, live, audio-visual DJing event with his good friends and very special guests 2manyDJs. Making up one half of their dance-rock band Soulwax, David and Stephen have spent
much of the last 10 years touring the globe on a worldwide party, twisting and distorting rock to a rave beat. As 2manyDJs, the bros were pioneers of the mash-up as well as remixing the likes of Daft Punk, Gossip, Rolling Stones and LCD Soundsystem. They’ll be reunited with Saam, who directed their seminal ‘Part Of The Weekend Never Dies’ rockumentary, for an almighty Land Of Kings rave.

Elsewhere, Havana Club Paladar will take over MC Motors, a unique warehouse space set in the heart of Dalston for a two day culture clash between Cuba and London including rare films, secret story telling and fresh sounds from both sides. The venue, being curated by Vince Vella and Blacktronica DJ Charlie Dark, will feature sets from the likes of ACyde & The Shining, Brassroots and the Havana Club Collective.

For the foodies, the Rebel Dining Society is back with Top Table – a three-course feast fit for a king at a undisclosed festival location. And whilst the tummy is rumbling, a brand new addition will be Yianni Papoutsis and his Meatwagon army. The award-winning burger maestros will be making their first public appearance since the runaway success #Meateasy bringing their own special something to the celebrations. All this, in addition to special discounts at your favourite
local Turkish restaurants.

The area’s backstreet theatre Stoke Newington International Airport decamp to Dalston Boys Club – an old Victorian School hall – for a “Royal Wedding Voodoo Remix” – featuring a Kate Middleton inspired striptease and dead Royals from history coming back to celebrate the unmissable occasion.

Elsewhere, interactive theatre company Gideon Reeling will be sprinkling their own unique, if slightly crazy, magic on the proceedings with their Phoenix Nights-inspired “Cosmic Prawn Wedding Party”. Imagine Kate ‘n’ Wills’ big day at a working men’s club in the early 90s. Then turn left.

Celebrating the Wedding in their own style are the Dalston Darlings, hosting a daytime Royal Cafe atop the Dalston Roof Garden, for what will be space’s season premiere. Looking out over the E8 skyline, the ladies will be serving guests high tea, gin cocktails and a BBQ as they enjoy all the action live from the Beeb alongside a programme of comedy and rock ‘n’ roll DJs into the early evening. Love-struck couples will also get the chance to get wed on the day in a (not
quite legally binding) ceremony.
