VIDEO The Anti-Greed Give-Away

On 31.3.2011 Mutate Britain gave away 300 signed original works by the artist Peter Dunne from a wall in the The City of London. Reactions were mixed…

Mutate Britain offered bankers in the bleeding heart of The City of London a white gloved service as they gave away 300 signed original art works in protest at bankers’ greed. The work, by the oil painter and stencil artist Peter Dunne , created a demonstration to show irresponsible banks and bankers that generosity of spirit and a social conscience is an affordable and even valuable asset.

The packed out event saw members of the public choose an artwork whilst receiving the full ‘fine art’ experience meet the artist. Each art work carries a quote from people’s voices across the UK expressing concern over cuts or anger at banks.

Examples:

Losing my job with the NHS after 10 years service on 31st march, 3 young kids to support no jobs in my area don’t know how we are going to survive, thanks for nothing

Christine-Marie Esteve
Poole Council has scrapped Meals on Wheels services for the homebound, and use of day centers for those with Alzheimer has gone up from £35 to £285 per week.

Mark C Lord
As a support worker my job has been cut which impacts on the team I’m part of, the service we are able to provide and ultimately the vulnerable people we support. Profit v life ?

The politically-charged event was a reaction by the renowned art collective Mutate Britain to the greed and social irresponsibility of the banking sector. It was organised to show support for the Robin Hood Tax that could generate billions from the financial sector to counteract cuts to frontline services in the UK and support those less fortunate than themselves both amongst the British public and wider world.
