‘Ultra-Motion / Anti-Static’, a group show with time based media as its central theme. The work displayed explores ways film and sound based technology can traverse the limitations of time and negotiate the many directions open to artists dealing with durational media. While there is a common theme running throughout the show, each piece has been selected for its unique approach to the subject.
Andrew Rowe has created two interactive sound installations which place the audience in control of time, as they use their body and specially constructed paddles to manipulate the sounds produced by the works. Yuko Takemura presents a striking film trapped inside a large cylindrical form designed to draw attention to the physicality of perception.
Fabio Scaccioli displays over 2000 stills comprising the entire content of his film ‘dead SEEquences’. The installation presents the viewer with a physical embodiment of time. Caroline Gervay displays a film made entirely of photographs cut to an original score by Leo Bettinelli.
The short is a psycho-geographical journey, exploring the inherent memories of the Vietnamese cultural landscape and the passage of time. Marcus Orlandi presents the viewer with a paradox of time, as the artist is shown locked into an infinite journey across multiple realities. Finally Charlotte Turton presents a carefully constructed manifesto, referencing recent trends in political rhetoric. It’s a statement full of benign hope for the future
