BLOOD, SWEAT & FEARS EMERGING BRITISH CREATIVE TALENT FROM MARCH 17TH

Blood, Sweat & Fears is a live magazine taking place in central London in March 2010, showcasing the best of emerging British talent from across the creative fields. Translating the concept of a magazine from the printed page to a live, interactive event, BS&F will feature artists as diverse as jellymongers, illustrators, musicians and a ‘haute coiffeur’ hairdresser. The five-day event will run from March 17th-21st at 65/67 Broadwick Street in support of Art Against Knives.

Traditional magazine elements such as photo shoots and interviews will be transformed into participatory activities that invite the audience into the artist’s work environment. The artists, their work, the event and the audience’s participation will be documented across the five days and rendered back onto paper to create a covetable limited
edition publication, due for release in May.

Organiser, and Central Saint Martins College of Art final year student, Chelsea Campbell says,
“The project seeks to find a new method of communication in an industry that is slowly changing with the digital revolution.Offline, designers are looking to create new experiences to display collections – whether affected by the recession, influenced by sustainability or inspired by how their work can be seen by a worldwide online audience, the live experience is becoming a vital channel within communications”.

Working with Richard Danks, of London College of Fashion, the pair are curating an interactive experience with equal helpings of artistic merit, creative spirit and youthful ambition. Aimed at London’s creative community, from ad agency execs to students, BS&F seeks to inspire discussion and help shine a light on undiscovered talent.

As well as the timetable of live events, the space will act as a pop-up shop showcasing the work of young artists and designers across the five days.

Artists
Charlie le Mindu creates head dresses and ‘hair couture’ in an absurdist environment of gothic hairy women. Charlie will be styling a series of celebrity look-a-likes in store for the launch.

Documenting the modern fairytale of celebrity adoration is Dan Wilton. Dan’s photography is ironic, witty and beautiful – gleaning at the ‘other side’ of his subjects.

Life In Film is four piece from Hackney with a bright, indie pop soundtrack to 2010. These boys have a chirpy sound that will be waking up the streets of Carnaby on Sunday morning as they record a music video with young, rising star director Craig Young.

Louise O’Connor is currently finishing her MA in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art. Louise will be showcasing a range of work that encourages engagement and interaction while exploring the perplexities of modern life. From curtains which open when sung to, to the dancing skills of salt granules, Louise’s work is humorous, engaging and intelligent in equal measure.

Studying alongside Louise is Alison Thomson, a young artist whose explorations into the treatment of diesease have opened up a host of questions about the public attitude towards non-terminal illness. Lack of information about coping with chronic disease has lead to a sympathetic society appeasing to the most sensitive of subjects. But do they want this?

Fifi & Lola will be providing their signature cakes which are quite simply a sugar coated-rainbow swirl heaven.

Art for a cause

BS&F is working in support of Art Against Knives, a charity born from the tragic and unprovoked stabbing of Oliver Hemsley, a 21-year-old student from Central St Martins in East London over a year ago. This year sees Art Against Knives establish itself as a charity after the hugely successful Celebrity Art Auction in March 2009 which was supported by the likes of Tracey Emin, Giles Deacon, Vivienne Westwood, Antony Gormley, Marios Schwab, Rankin, Christopher Kane, Tim Walker, Richard Nicoll and Wolfgang Tillmans. 15% of all sales made at BS&F will be donated to Art Against Knives alongside all profits from sales of the magazine.
